ARE YOU PERIODISING YOUR CAREER?

Career planning can be a really difficult process, and often one that we fail to take control of like we could. So here is a simple 5 step plan to help you!

1 - Understand where you want to be
You need to know where you want to be. Or at least have an idea of the types of things you aspire to further down the line. For example…
Managing a multi-disciplinary team
Working in Olympic Sports as a S&C Coach
Earn x amount

2 - Conduct a needs analysis of that role
Study the people in the types of roles you want, as well as looking at job descriptions for roles you aspire towards. Understand what areas you need to excel in, in order to differentiate yourself against your peers when applying for these roles.

3 - Analyse where you are currently
You need to see how your skills and knowledge stack up against the requirements of the roles you aspire to. Be honest, and open about where your gaps lie in each specific ‘core competency’ on the job ads/job spec

4 - Plan to Close the Gap
Just as we would target specific development for athletes, take the same approach and systematically map out how you will fill the gaps on the required skills you need

Where are you lacking, and what skills, tools, resources, and support do you need to be able to level up?

5 - Plan intentionally and prioritise your personal development
Now you have a long list of areas to work on. Time to prioritise them and assign specific tasks and timelines to each one. Of course, all areas need to tick along, but, when you want to improve in anything you need to be intentional, consistent and follow a strategy.

This sounds simple, but it's not exactly easy……

That is why myself and Josh Fletcher have joined forces to bring you the Career Periodisation for S&C Coaches Manual. This manual will guide you through these steps and many more, and provide you with a clear structure and process which will give you the unfair advantage over the field.
